Angelique Millis

Her story: My 'freshman 15' was more like the 'freshman 40.' I was a huge emotional eater. I would eat when I was stressed, happy, sad—it didn’t matter. I felt embarrassed trying on clothes when I'd have to secretly ask the sales lady to bring me a larger size. I felt drained from the life that I was leading, and I knew that if I didn’t make a change soon, my weight would continue to balloon and my health would suffer. I am proud to say that I changed my lifestyle by forming great habits and I've never turned back.
 There is no magic pill or potion for getting fit. I learned this through my own trials and errors until I was finally able to kick bad habits and embrace health and fitness as a lifestyle.

Josh Christensen

His story: After not having touched a weight for about 12 months, one of Josh’s volleyball teammates invited him to try a new DailyBurn weight training program, Live to Fail. The six-day-a-week “LTF” program focuses on building muscle and definition by lifting to failure. Josh was a bit reluctant to sign on at first; he wanted to sit back and just enjoy this summer. “I decided if I kept saying ‘I don’t know if I want to do it right now,’ I’d never do it,” says Josh. “So I said ‘OK, I’m in.’”For Josh, the video format made a big difference. “It was much more helpful to see the moves done in front of you versus reading about how to do them, or looking at a picture in a book or magazine.” Josh committed to going all-in with the LTF nutrition program as well. Being from the South, the Mississippi-native knew it wouldn’t be easy to give up rich sauces and fried meals for clean, whole foods. He began cooking all of his own food, and because he was used to flavorful meals, Josh turned to spices and condiments like mustard, which tasted great and still kept him within his macros. He adds, “I put a Post-It note on my computer monitor, too, so I knew when to eat .Every two and a half to three hours I would have a meal.”

Mylene Biddle

alt="weight loss,weight loss motvations,fat to fit,weight losing"
Her story: Mylene dropped 35 pounds in under two years and picturing success played a big part in her transformation. "If I literally feel like I can't do one more rep of a difficult exercise, I think of pro bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman's saying, 'Ain't nothing but a peanut!' and envision the weight as a tiny peanut," she laughs. "And then I lift it."When she wasn't envisioning healthy fats on the ends of her barbell, she visualized the buff body parts she was working towards. "I'd see a nice biceps bulge, some well-defined lats and rock-hard glutes during my workouts," she says. With her goals in front of her, Mylene was able to push harder and tune in to her individual muscles.
"Knowing I am a strong woman keeps me motivated," she says. If she can envision it, she says, it ain't nothing but a peanut.
Mylene trains six days a week, beginning every workout with cardio. She then splits her strength training into the following routines:
Monday: Legs
Tuesday: Shoulders
Wednesday: Back & biceps
Thursday: Legs & Glutes
Friday: Chest, Triceps & Abs
Saturday: Shoulders & Calves
Sunday: REST

Scott Thompson
alt="weight loss,weight loss motvations,fat to fit,weight losing"
His story: I was a competitive athlete growing up, playing all kinds of sports at a high level. When a knee injury in college forced me to stop training, I eventually found myself sitting behind a desk, eating nothing but takeout, and 120 pounds heavier—for about six years. During that time, my friends and family were relentless, constantly commenting on and mocking my weight until I'd finally had enough. I decided it was time to do something about it. The hardest part of losing weight isn't working out or knowing what to eat, it's committing! Find a training partner to help keep you accountable. It's easier to reach your goals if someone is expecting you at the gym every day or if you have a gym buddy that you simply enjoy working out with to help make it fun.

Kayla Sleigher

Her story: When her wedding photos arrived, Kayla got a stark wake-up call about her weight. “The photos were completely devastating to me,” Kayla says. She hated the way she looked on her wedding day, and in her dress. “I don’t have a single photo from that day out in my house. They are all shoved away.” But painful as it was, those photos motivated Kayla to finally step on a scale. It read 209 pounds.One of the keys to Kayla’s slim-down: Scheduling her workouts at the same time every day — between 9 and 10 a.m. — even on weekends. “It gives me enough time to have breakfast, wait for the food to settle, and then do my work out,” Kayla says. “Then, afterwards, I have my protein shake and lunch.” Now, she says, “My waist is so much smaller; my butt is more lifted. I feel like if I wanted to sign up for a 5K tomorrow, I could do it.”

Zain Jamal

alt="weight loss,weight loss motvations,fat to fit,weight losing"
Her story: Weighing 145 pounds after a period of binge eating that followed years of anorexia (her lowest weight was 89 pounds back in 2005), Zain knew it was time to commit to a lifestyle of consistent, healthy habits rather than bouncing between two extremes. “When I started practising mindfulness, everything changed,” says Zain.
Spending time with herself was the first step. After some reflection, Zain realized that her body image was a wreck and that her eating habits stemmed from a desire to be accepted by others. Applying mindfulness techniques she had learned through yoga and meditation, she decided once and for all not to succumb to her own “mind games.” Zain began to practice deep breathing, boosted her motivation by repeating inspiring mantras, hired a personal trainer, and began to educate herself in clean eating.
To combat emotional eating, she stopped having meals while working, watching TV or chatting on the phone. “When I didn’t focus on the meal, I would get to the end and never feel satisfied,” she says, which led to late-night snacking.
“I faced my fears and worked through them,” says Zain, who lost 40 pounds the healthy way and now teaches private workshops for women recovering from eating disorders. “Mindfulness has taught me to cultivate humility, maintain discipline and choose love rather than fear.
Getting her mind and body in sync was monumental to Zain’s success. Her tips?
  • During a meal, savour each bite, chewing slowly while admiring the colors, textures, aromas and flavours.
  • Dine outdoors or near a window to calm your body and mind.
  • Before your workouts, perform a mental “body scan.” Ask yourself, how are you feeling that day? Are you energetic? Tired? Stressed? Are any of your muscles sore? Are you carrying tension? Every time you scan your body, become familiar with its needs for that workout.
  • While weight training, pay attention to your breathing.
