One thing to be noted, not all the exercises are created equally. We know that not everyone has time to spend on gym. It is better to to workout at least 3-4 times, each about 2 hours a week.  If you wanna have a fit muscular and shaped body then you must definitely do both cardio and weights. A lot of people switch to higher reps and lower weights when wanting to lose fat because they think this will tone the muscle more. Having low body fat is what gives a muscle the toned look so if you want to hold onto or even gain a little muscle then keep going heavy and progressing with your strength gains.
