The Underlying Technologies of Chat GPT vs Bard

OpenAI's Chat GPT has generated a lot of buzz since its introduction in November 2022. But now, Google has stepped up with Bard AI, one of its latest launches. 


Chat GPT is an AI language model with the capacity to carry out NLP tasks including text summarization, language translation, and question-answering in a conversational manner with its users.


Bard AI is an AI chatbot that performs similar functions to Chat GPT. However, Bard is based on Google's LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Application) model.


In this article, we're gonna cover the main underlying technologies behind Open AI ChatGPT and Google Bard AI chatbots.



Technologies used in Google Bard AI:


Bard was built on some of the following technologies and language models that process natural language in various ways. 


While not much information about Bard is currently available to the general public, what is known so far about some of the core technologies of the conversational AI chatbot is as follows:


1) Large Language Models: Since these models were trained on huge amounts of text datasets, they may produce high-quality results that can vary from quick text responses to in-depth analyses.


2) Transformer Models: These transformers may generate accurate representations of the relationship between words and their context in a sentence as they have been trained on a large number of text datasets.


3) Generative Adversarial Networks: These merge texts and images to produce visual and multimedia material using two neural networks: a discriminator and a generator.


4) Diffusion Models: These models are based on simulating dissemination in a network and predicting market acceptance of novel items or concepts.



Technologies used in Open AI Chat GPT:


Whereas ChatGPT is based on the GPT-3 family of language models created by OpenAI, which Bard has also used, it differs from other chatbots as it was trained on a variety of datasets. A few of these datasets include:


1) Common Crawl: It is a company that does internet searches and offers free access to the public to its archives and data. Petabytes of data have been captured and are kept in the Common Crawl web repository since 2011. It crawls once a month on average.


2) Wikipedia: Everyone is familiar with Wikipedia and uses it to learn about any topic, therefore ChatGPT maintains a record of everything that has ever been kept there.


3) BooksCorpus: A substantial collection of unpublished authors' works in 16 different subgenres, including romance, history, science, adventure, self-help, and so on, may be found in BookCorpus, which has 11,038 free novels.


4) WebText2: WebText2, the combined textual form of all these websites, contains all outbound Reddit links from posts with more than three upvotes.



It is not possible to say for sure what all the underlying technologies of Bard and ChatGPT are based on the material that is currently available on online forums and everything that Microsoft and Google have made public. 


Moreover, Google’s LaMDA model will apparently require less server capacity than OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 architecture. Therefore, Bard could potentially accommodate more users compared to Chat GPT. Still, ChatGPT shows some errors whenever there is huge traffic. Yet, whenever there is a lot of traffic, ChatGPT shows some errors.


Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, claims that this unique function would "provide fresh, high-quality responses." And as a result, many predict that Bard will be far more robust than Chat Chat.


It's possible that many of the datasets and models used to develop these conversational AI applications are related.
